Introducing Plum

Design by Mark Gabbertas

With Plum the aim was for an upholstered universal chair that would be as much at home in a hotel bedroom as it would be in an office lobby or an informal meeting area, but also one that could work in domestic situations. The key objective was universality and the challenge was to get the balance right.

Interestingly having explored many routes, Plum came about from one of Gabbertas’s original sketches, a series of ultra-soft pillow like structures that allow the internal structure of the chair to be hidden. These gentle forms, defined by a pinched seam would, in a sense, sit and just gently touch.

The deliberately simple frame allows the overall form of Plum, the upholstered elements, to breathe. The pillow like structures and upright invites you to unwind while still being perfect for working, reading or conversation.
