Allermuir - Celebrating British Manufacturing

Celebrating British Manufacturing

We've come together with Kvadrat to celebrate British manufacturing, pairing the new Clo seating collection with Peter Saville’s Technicolour textile, woven in England from locally sourced British wool.

At Allermuir, manufacturing has always been more than a production process. It is where ideas are refined, materials are understood and skilled craftsmanship transforms design concepts into carefully made furniture. For the launch of Clo, this appreciation for making finds a natural connection in Kvadrat’s Technicolour – an upholstery by Peter Saville, woven in England from locally sourced British wool. Together, Clo and Technicolour bring attention to British manufacturing, material origin and the role of considered design in shaping contemporary interiors.

The story behind Technicolour

Technicolour celebrates the natural origins of wool while exploring a contemporary approach to colour and textile design. Woven in Britain using locally sourced British wool, the textile reflects a close relationship between landscape, traditional manufacturing and modern interiors. The inspiration behind Technicolour comes from the vivid markings seen on sheep in rural pastures. These colours, traditionally used for livestock identification, form the foundation of a carefully developed colour system.

Beginning with just 10 base colours – five vibrant hues inspired by livestock marking sprays, including orange, blue, green, yellow and magenta, and five natural neutrals of black, brown, light beige, dark beige and undyed wool – Technicolour expands into a palette of 30 nuanced melange colourways. The result is a textile that balances contrast and subtlety. It captures the character of its rural origins while offering the versatility required for contemporary interior design. With its tactile surface, depth of colour and 100% wool composition, Technicolour is a distinctive upholstery choice for spaces where comfort, durability and visual expression are equally important.

Clo: hospitality-inspired seating for contemporary spaces

Designed by Allermuir Design Studio, Clo is a soft seating collection inspired by the refined comfort and elegance of high-end hospitality environments. Combining the simplicity of a stool with the soft curves and considered detailing often found in hotel lobbies, cocktail lounges and restaurants, Clo brings warmth and quiet sophistication to modern interiors.

The collection has been designed to support the changing expectations of workplace and hospitality spaces, where environments are becoming more relaxed, welcoming and focused on human experience. Clo is suited to a variety of settings, from reception areas and meeting spaces to hospitality-led workplace interiors. Its sculptural form, generous comfort and understated design language allow it to sit naturally within environments that prioritise connection, collaboration and wellbeing.

A considered pairing of colour, texture and form

The use of Technicolour on Clo demonstrates how furniture and upholstery can work together to shape the atmosphere of an interior. The rich, nuanced palette of Technicolour complements Clo's soft silhouette, allowing designers to introduce colour with confidence while maintaining a refined and timeless expression. The depth of the melange weave adds texture and warmth, enhancing Clo’s hospitality-inspired character and creating a sense of comfort within the spaces it occupies.

From saturated tones to more natural neutral shades, the Technicolour palette offers flexibility across a wide range of interior settings. Whether used in workplace lounges, reception areas, collaborative spaces or hospitality environments, the combination creates an inviting experience that feels both contemporary and considered. The result is a thoughtful meeting of form and material, where the craftsmanship of Clo and the story of Technicolour come together in furniture designed for people and the spaces they share.

British manufacturing and material understanding

British manufacturing remains an important part of Allermuir’s identity. It allows us to maintain a close connection between design, production and quality, while continuing to value skilled makers, responsible processes and long-term durability.

The use of locally sourced British wool in Technicolour also highlights the importance of material origin and supply chains within interior design. Natural fibres such as wool offer inherent qualities including durability, tactility and a connection to renewable resources when responsibly sourced. As expectations for more responsible interiors continue to evolve, material choices, skilled craftsmanship and thoughtful design play an increasingly important role.

From pasture to loom, from workshop to finished furniture, Clo upholstered in Technicolour reflects a shared appreciation for where materials come from, how products are made and how design can create more welcoming spaces.
